October 21st was a bit of a whirlwind. Birthing our fourth boy, discovering he had a vascular malformation known as Port Wine Stains, and then further learning that he would need an MRI on his brain day one and could potentially have developmental delays and seizures was not the sweet entrance into the world we had envisioned.
But God knew. And the word went out and prayer warriors stood their ground and sent words heavenward. Our hearts, though raw, were strengthened, our faith was bolstered and even through many tears, we hoped. Not in a medical miracle, but in a God who we knew would never leave us. A God who would either heal our Finn or make us ready and able for the journey, whatever that might look like for our beloved fourth.
Days and weeks months have passed, filled with doctor appointments and a boatload of prayer… and our little Finn is indeed a miracle. Joyful and engaged, passing every developmental milestone, showing no signs of glaucoma, and other than turning purple on selected parts of his sweet hyper-color body if he is mad or cold, he has given us no cause for concern.
PRAISE!
Your prayers have been our strength!
So today we head to Children’s hospital for the first of several pulse-dye laser treatments, in hopes to fade some of the color on his face. It is merely superficial, but we hope to give him the best opportunity for a fair shake at life without his forehead blushing at every turn. He’ll go through this minor treatment now, again around 13 as the port wine stains are assumed to grow with him as he grows and this will merely get him back to a baseline color, and then he will get to choose later in his teen years if he wants to continue or feels comfortable in his skin, whatever variation of colors it might be.
Please pray for his procedure, for his joyful little heart to continue to flourish in this noisy home, for his big brothers to continue to delight in him and sense a duty to protect his little soul.
And take a moment to thank God for whatever small or large miracles you have recently experienced in your own life. Let us rejoice with gratitude today…
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
